Design was the first hurdle. I knew the rough functionality before I started, this allowed me to keep a mind set to how the design was to function.

My issues were as follows:

• UI layout
• Functionality
• Design Choice

UI layout and functionality was an issue. So many ways to do it and even more ways to get it wrong. I focused on the essential core concept of the site and stuck to getting that right and working as one would expect it to. Everything else would come from here.

Functionality

This is a hard one. So easy to balloon and feature creep. Again I distilled the site into two sections. The first being the editor and content creation. I wanted the content to be the star. No images, movie / Youtube just pure content. For the editor I found one written in Node.js and all it needed to run was jQuery. Nothing stressful about that so that was easy! I added an auto save function courtesy of a key up event that would wait 3 seconds before initiating the save via an Ajax call. Nice and simple. Added publish and un publish controls and it was all more ore less complete on the editor front.

A good developer listens to feedback from users. I’m lucky to be a part of multiple communities and they all have needs and issue s about social media platforms, mainly privacy or lack there of. This is especially true from some of my female friends. I added profiles for publishers and baked in the ability to hide content and contact from people they did not allow to follow them. As well as the open and public functionality of normal following. I declined messaging in the end ad it seemed a distraction from the purpose of the site.
